Contextual Presentation

(10 percent of final grade)

Once this semester you will give a contextual presentation to the class.  The purpose of this assignment is to provide the class with information that will help illuminate or contextualize some or all of the day’s assigned reading.

These presentations will be 5 to 10 minutes long and will cover a subject that I will assign you.  Your job will to be to research the given subject, synthesize the research you’ve done into a coherent presentation, and to be prepared to answer questions the class will have about your subject.

In other words, you will be our class’s expert on your given subject.

Topics will range from specific literary works to cultural phenomenon to authors to whatever else I find relevant about a particular class’s reading.  You are encouraged to bring in media to help your presentation.  In the past, students have used video, handouts, audio recordings, and PowerPoint to supplement their presentations. I highly encourage you to strive for originality in your own presentation.

I am always available to talk with you about ideas and questions for your presentation. Please let me know if you have any technological needs a least a week prior to your presentation.

Requirements

Length: Presentations must be at least five minutes long. If your presentation goes over 10 minutes, I may have to cut you off.

Sources: You are required to use at least two scholarly sources for your presentation. You will need to cite these on an annotated (2/3 sentence summery) Works Cited page in MLA that you turn in immediately after your presentation.

I will not accept any late Works Cited pages. Your textbook is considered a scholarly source, though I highly encourage you to seek out two other sources as well.
